ps3 motion... hopefully for digital artists?

Thu Sep 3, 2009, 2:21 PM
I'm so excited about this. So if you find yourself wondering wtf i'm talking about Sony's finally putting out it's response to Nintendo's great motion control idea. It's yet another motion controller but this time with true 1:1 tracking and attached to the PS3's much more powerful hardware, and working in conjunction with the eye toy camera system, see video demo. The possibilities for games will be awesome, sure, but the possibilities for digital art are.. :woohoo:.

It's probably naive of me to think that this will immediately turn a 40" HDTV in to a virtual studio, but at least the technology is there. Though, if you're a massive pseudo-nerd like me, you've got Yellow Dog Linux hanging around on your PS3 hard drive, but don't have any real software development skills. Perhaps we don't need to wait for Microsoft realize that Natal is, well, kinda lame in comparison, and for Apple to.. wait, they're still working on a touch screen tablet? nvm. Anyway, my hopes are strong (though likely misguided) that either Sony will have some kind of artsy software for us, or the open source world might come to our aid.
